Cheyenne by Morning

Yesterday we drove across Wyoming in our determination to make the October 31 deadline for the meeting in Washington DC. As we cruised in the cool darkness through the Medicine Bow National Forest Mountains, we knew that Cheyenne by morning was the realistic goal.

At 2:30 am we pulled into the Flying J in Cheyenne. It had been a very long day. Looking at one another, we agreed to relay by taking short naps of two to four hours over the next two days, in hopes of driving the 1800 miles. The resolve was good and our intentions were honorable. The alarm went off at 6:30 am falling on deaf ears.

Awakening at 10 am, we looked at one another again, and said, "That didn't work. Let's keep trying."

Today's goal for miles is 300, better is great if we make it. We're driving an old van, a 1973 Dodge Tradesman 300. She only likes short stints of 100- 150 miles before taking her rest.

Realizing that I needed to keep up with my internet work, we stopped at Starbucks for one hour to check job listings and assignments in ten blogging companies. Knowing that I would only have time to write one post, I chose this site since it gets a lot of regular visitors who might be interested in our travel progress for this important meeting with the Undersecretary of Agriculture Mark Rey.

One other realization struck us today. We might not make the deadline with our current status. It might be a phone conference as we continue the journey to Washington DC where we will work and live for about two months. Onward we ride!

Autumn Leaves

Rustling autumn leaves in the wind inspires me into a nostalgic revelry. It feels like a time to ponder the past year and life in general. A longing stirs inside me to write poetry, to sip hot chocolate by a fire, to read a book long awaited, to visit with some one that I love for hours or take long walks in the crisp autumn air.

Stay tuned for more on Autumn Leaves.

Ecoquest

Environmental consciousness is the wave of today that will surge like peak ocean waves into the future. Our children count on us to be environmentally conscious. Reuse, recycle, paper or plastic are like mantras of the new age movement that surfaced prevalently in the past five years.

Utilizing resources is a good practice in many respects. It is just a little overwhelming to find sources for sound information on how, when and where to recycle or to know which environmental organizations or movement bandwagons to board.

With the importance of education for youth to help them understand our environment and to prepare them for the monumental task of inheriting the state of our earth in their future, Ecoquest has developed a game designed to that end. Education is key. Games are the entertainment of youth and young adults today, so this is a perfect medium to teach environmental principles. An interactive game such as Ecoquest also serves to bring action to life through interaction. Read more about this game on wikipedia for further enlightenment.

Electronic versus paper is a good choice in paper and tree conservation. This is valuable in using electronic games to teach environmental principles and awareness. It is encouraging to know that others care as much about the future of our world.

Financing Your Home

In this state of economic instability both in the United States and abroad, trusted financial institutions are a light beacon in a sea of financial uncertainty. With the stock market seeing record plunges and banks failing, Americans hold their breath every day wondering whether their money will be safe.

If a home is mortgaged at a bank that is on the failure list, then what happens to the mortgage on an owner's home? And what of the equity in the home? Will FDIC or any homeowners insurance pick up the tab for a failed bank? These are all good questions for American home owners.

Finding a mortage company to take over the mortgage of an existing loan is a very sobering decision. First time mortgages are an equally somber decision. Risks are always a factor when buying real estate, as with any purchase involving large amounts of financing or equity. There are companies like Amerisave Mortgage who strive to offer the lowest rates and still provide service to the homeowner. Giving assurance of trusted service is the goal of this mortgage company.

Growing tendencies toward online purchases adds to the convenience that Amerisave Mortgage offers giving its customers fast processing while striving to provide the lowest rates in the U.S. 50 states and DC. It takes minutes to apply for a mortgage loan with access to most mortgage banks.

In America today, assurance, customer service and peace of mind are noteworthy attributes. Check out Amerisave Mortgage for your home financing needs today.

Coffee Mania

Sitting in coffee shops around the nation transforms ones habit into more of a coffee mania, to coin a term. Traveling around the United States, I have seen major coffee shop chains like Starbucks and small neighborhood coffee shops of many "not remembered" names.

Perhaps I should begin to chronicle all these coffee shops. It is a great niche blog idea, in fact. Let me start with the College Market located at 604 S.8th Avenue in Pocatello, Idaho. Their phone number is (208) 232-3993. The coffee is reasonably priced, served fresh ground and is organic, which is always a plus in my book.

The College Market has free wi-fi as well as long as you are enjoying a cup of coffee, or other beverage such as the juices sold in the store, surf the internet to your hearts content.

College Market is a quaint old-fashioned feel at home coffee shop that serves the young, the old and all ages in between. Furnished quaintly with an old fashioned appeal, the shop seats about 50 people comfortably with three loveseats, a sofa, large tables, medium tables and small tables dispersed in the "divided room" look of the shop. The counter is bar style with six stools to sit and chat with the "baristas" who are down home friendly and who love to chat with the customers. Now this is not my first visit to the College Market, so the baristas know my son and daughter, who live in Pocatello and frequent this coffee shop. That is how I discovered this gem.

The patio provides a fresh air place to sit and watch the occasional traffic heading for the campus or downtown Pocatello. Wrought iron furniture gives it a medieval feel. The large open front is open view to the outside with large glass windows that give the people inside a chance to look at the patio conversations happening as well as the beautiful leaves turning on the trees that line both sides of the street.

What a relaxing place with great atmosphere. The music is soothing and soft as well, not overpowering like in some coffee shops.

I am a confessed Starbucks lover, but I know when to frequent a neighborhood shop and support the local economy. The College students at Idaho State University really enjoy this as both a social gathering place as well as a haven to do homework in the company of others. Sometimes it is just nice not to sit alone.

There is a computer available for those who do not own a laptop and it is free. Plug ins are plentiful. The coffee is delicious and so are the pastries.

Come visit the College Market if you are ever passing through Pocatello.

Good morning everyone from Pocatello, Idaho. It's 55 degrees at 8:47 am and the sun is coming out. It's going to be a beautiful day. True to my habits, I stayed up most of the night, sleeping about three hours.

My husband, Cephas, a/k/a Photo Gent found Roxiticus Desperate Housewives' site with her post on Breast Cancer. He was anxious for me to read it and to take a look at the layout of her site. While browsing I found Roxi's social site. Of course, I signed up right away and wanted to share with all my readers. Join us, won't you?

Camel Back Displays

Trade shows are a modern means to showcase a product, an invention or a company. Usually held in large facilities such as a university, space is open with dozens or even hundreds of booths throughout the hall or auditorium where trade shows are usually held. To stress the literal size of such events, even convention centers are suitable trade show hosts. The number of entrants is as vast as the displays are unique.

Whether a week or one weekend in duration, the trade show exhibits are seemingly endless so time must be maximized to cover all the exhibits. Creativity and resourcefulness in displaying ones products is widely varied. Having a service to assist with design needs for your trade show booth is very helpful. Camel Back Displays provides all the tools necessary to showcase your product.

Presentation being an important part of product image, it begins with the table covers. Approaching a well designed booth always catches attention better than the ordinary booth. Starting with color co-ordination and contrast, table covers are instrumental in setting the tone for the rest of a trade show display. Camel Back Displays has a variety of colors and textures that can be custom designed to fit exclusive needs for any company or organization. Personalized logos or company art can be printed on the table covers to add that unique touch.

Viewing the objects in any booth should be comfortable to potential customers. Using
table top displays puts the item at eye level for browsers to view with ease. Camel Back Displays offer many styles from which to choose, such as portable folding tables that fit into a carry bag or a self packing table top display. They carry stack-able designs, briefcase type displays or wall unit styles.

Prices are affordable and service is prompt. Camel Back Displays definitely has enough variety to suit any company or organization.

Testing Scribefire Ads

Scribefire is a brand new program for me so this will be a test run of the program. Once I monitor the earnings results and read to understand more about Scribefire and how it works, I will post an update.

Scribefire uses an extension file on adsense ads using the same publisher's code with an "sf" extension added to the pub-id. The site provides a fascinating dashboard to which the user logs in to monitor and create ad campaigns.

What I just learned from further reading is that blogspot is not on the list of blog providers which is compatible with Scribefire. It will be necessary to download the Scribefire tools to use through Firefox instead. I will definitely have to study some more about this program to become Scribe Fire savvy.

Onward to DC

Good day readers. Today is a beautiful day in Twin Falls, Idaho. It's about 60 degrees and the sun is brightly shining. All in all, this is a beautiful autumn day. After experiencing some frigid temperatures in Winnemucca, Nevada, it is wonderful to feel the moderate warmth here.

I know I need to get used to wearing the sweater, covered with the jacket, then ultimately the winter coat comes out of storage and I air out the moth ball smell. Realizing that I need to bundle up for winter and be happy about the weather helps me to cope with the often frigid temperatures I will face in the winter traveling from one part of the country to another. Often Cephas and I will be in the sunshine of southern Arizona only to make a trip to the winter storms of Pennsylvania. It's all just part of traveling life.

We have many things to be excited about today. Soon we'll be in Pocatello to visit with our daughter, our son, and grandchildren. We will be meeting two of the grandchildren for the first time. Bella Rose was born about three weeks ago. I uploaded her photo on The Midnight Writer's Freelance Quest. I can't wait to hold her and hopefully get my photo taken holding her for a memory keepsake.

Bella's big sister Ivy is very excited about having a second sister. Her other sister Lillie is becoming very grown up now. She is the feature of one of my blogs, Lillie in The Rain.

Our grandson is about 11/2 years old who also lives in Pocatello. We have yet to meet Vincent so that will be an exciting stop for us. I have heard a lot about him from his Mommy but there is nothing like meeting a child for yourself.

One more stop for us on the way to Washington DC will be a quick trip through Tennessee, either before our meeting with the Undersecretary of Agriculture Mark Rey, or afterwards. See this beautiful little girl Ashlyn Brooke on The Midnight Writer's Freelance Quest.

We have a lot of miles to cover today and it's already 3:07 pm. It's our hope to drive to Rawlins, Wyoming by tonight with a stop in Pocatello. That's about 440 miles so see you down the road.

Writing in Reno

The city lights enticed me as we drove into the exciting city of Reno, Nevada last night. However, I resisted going out on the town to visit the flashy casinos and clubs that line the expressway throughout the city. Instead, Cephas and I rented a motel to settle in for a couple days "rest from the road" to regenerate and prepare for the hustle across the country to Washington DC. Our date of arrival is planned for October 31 giving us just ten days travel time.

Two days in a motel gives me time to catch up on freelance writing work which is piling up. My memo books are filled with enough tasks on blogs, websites and contracted jobs to keep me busy for several weeks. My focus at this time is on the urgent tasks at hand.

About eight months ago, I began a quest as a freelance writer which was a very foreign road to travel. Now I am familiar with writing as my life has always been filled with the art and love of writing. It is the freelance work contracting jobs on the marketplace that both intrigued and stumped me. I was a complete novice getting my feet wet.

With time rolling forward and writing becoming a purposed daily practice, my skills and work drive are becoming enhanced. The blogs are growing with each post which is increasing my exposure to the marketplace and all its prospective clients.

Recently, the flood gates have begun to open up for me as freelance writing assignments on blogs begin to trickle in steadily. Today, I negotiated my first magazine article on Northwest Travel Magazine online. It's really exciting!

Onward to create an awesome travel adventure story that took place in Montana!

Dazzling Furniture

Holiday shopping time is upon us and those gift lists seem to grow larger every day. The list includes gifts for that special loved one in your life or for Mom and Dad, Aunt Betty, the children and all those friends that fill your life with joy.

How do you find time to shop for each one and give that gift the special attention your loved one deserves?

One way that really helps simplify the shopping experience and cuts down on travel and shopping time is internet or catalog shopping. I recently browsed through a website EroomService seeking that unique gift for the special people in my life.

The online catalog for EroomService dazzled my eyes with fanciful holiday gifts. Before your eyes the pages unfold displaying an exquisite array of Modern Furniture , Contemporary Furniture and a large assortment of Bedroom Furniture . My favorite is the bedroom suite in the photo above. Click on the link to find this suite and all the other impressive bedroom suites or individual pieces of furniture.

Italian Furniture fits into almost any decor if it is quality. The diplay room for EroomService is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but the furniture is designed and crafted in Italy. It would be worth a trip just to see the display personally.

Make sure you have notebook paper handy to mark that gift list. Decisions will be difficult with so many styles of bedroom, dining room and living room pieces and room combinations. Enjoy this season's shopping! Surprise your parents with a new bedroom suite or a trip to Italy. Either way, they will appreciate the love!

Late Night on the Back Porch

As fate would have it, I am holding another late night writing vigil after midnight. That seems to be my trademark custom all year since this freelance writing adventure started. If the truth be all told about my life as a writer, you might be surprised! My husband and I have some of the wildest and most unusual experiences living on the road.

Tonight, I am hanging out on the back porch at Starbuck's in Auburn, California. The clerks said I could sit on their huge back patio and plug in to the wall outlet. Who could refuse such an offer? Electricity, table, chair, still a three quarters full cup of warm coffee and plenty of stories to write. This is styling, I have to say!

Normally, I am cramped inside the van on the front seat bundled in blankets while holding my laptop running on battery power on my lap. It gets heavy on the legs!

Shhh! Tonight, I just had to go, you know, so I watered behind the bushes. When I came out the guy who makes the deliveries for Starbucks is here unloading. My husband says, "Don't startle him! Go around the back!" So I did. I walked to the end of the parking lot and cut through the fence to walk the back way onto the patio. This patio covers the entire length of this store and it is huge. The store is complete with lounge areas and fireplace. Cozy!

I feel so stealth, you know. Don't tell my classy clients about the secret traveling life of this midnight freelance writer!

The good news for today is about my first response on an actual freelance writing job for a magazine. I was so happy to find the response and request for a story in my email inbox. Things are looking up! Who knows, I might be able to afford rent on an apartment soon! It sure would help me while I work on political action in DC this fall.

Till next time, I am The Midnight Writer

Going Professional

This is my second day as a "professional blogger" on this domain and it feels great! Now I have two domains for two blogs but that does not guarantee me a position with the "big blogs". It is a highly competitive world in the internet publishing industry, and as I have learned through much labor, toil, and striving, that writing on a blog would not be enough.

What have I learned in the past seven months
since I started this freelance writing quest?
1. Being a professional blogger involves first understanding the laws of internet etiquette.
2. Having domain names are a key factor in obtaining job assignments with the paid blogging companies that hire freelance writers.
3. A professional blogger cares about the appearance of the blog. From the site name, to the url, to the layout, blog header image or logo, to the font color and size as well as background colors and types of images used are all a decisive factor in the appeal of the blog.

First Blogger Domain

I am so excited that tonight I purchased my first blogger domain name

on Blogspot. They have been kind enough to allow me to publish multiple blogs for free, that I thought it only fair to begin my professional upgrades with Blogspot hosting.

Previously, I purchased themidnightwriter.net which was to be hosted at squarespace. Since it has experienced problems in the domain mapping since April, I have all but given up on the transfer. I'm thinking about waiting till spring then finding a new provider with domain mapping included in technical support. Watch out for some "cheap" domain name providers!!!

Now, I have http://www.themidnightwriter.org/, which is mapped to the blog that your are reading now.

I also own a domain with my partner, Photo Gent, at Mountain Spirit Productions along with a wordpress blog which is powered by Wordpress. This part perplexes me just a little until I can read and understand more about how to program blogs on Wordpress.

This is so exciting! I can't wait to design a logo and purchase the space so I can tweek the site with a fantastic jazzy template and all the bells and whistles. Be sure to visit often as this project develops.

Meanwhile, be sure to check out the peace and justice site and monitor our Vigil to DC. Visit Rainbow Justus now.

Till next time,

Pumpkin Pie

As my spouse says, "Pie, pie! I like pie!"

He's quoting the angel Michael in the movie with John Trivolta.

Now, my thoughts turn to pumpkin pie as I ponder the inclusion of the

angel Michael into my mind at this time.

I mean, what do angels and pie have in common anyway?

I give thanks to my husband for the cute movie clip from a beautiful love story that just happens to include pie and an angel.

I'll talk more about that later in my
Diary.

Going back to the point of the story.

The topic is pie, but to be specific, pumpkin pie. Harvest season brings fresh crisp flavors like apple cider, hot apple pie, pumpkin pie and all those tantalizing flavors of autumn. This season comes quickly once the summer season ends but it passes even more quickly as winter advances upon the earth. Pumpkin pie is the essence of a summer of life and growth and the toil over the garden. Pumpkins and pumpkin patches are reminiscent of all those childhood memories, like Charlie Brown in the pumpkin patch, jack o lanterns, hot pumpkin pie baked by Mom and Grandma...Halloween and trick or treat...the dressing up and fun time collecting all that candy and goodies.

Autumn passes but the pumpkin pie travels through the holiday season past Halloween into Thanksgiving and all the way to Christmas. Now that brings us to pie and angels, for Christmas is the season for both.

Still wondering about the relationship between pie and angels?

I've eaten some pie that was purely heavenly in my time. But I cannot attest to ever seeing an actual angel eat pie. Now, I am not saying that I have not seen an actual angel. Nor am I saying that angels do not eat pie. I'm still trying to connect the two. Surely there is a reason to have both pie and angels come up in the same sentence and the same thought.

Have you ever experienced a spontaneous thought coming into your mind that you know must come from an outside supernatural, or even divine source?

That is what happened here. So the quest continues to connect the relationship between angels and pie.

Perhaps, as some Biblical scholars assert, manna was an actual type of souffle, or pie. This can be studied in the ancient Hebrew manuscripts. It's a little bit technical, I know. However, for the sake of discovery, I would like to research this topic and I invite my readers to help with this quest. If you find the answer to what angels and pie have in common, please email themidnightwriter1@gmail.com or post it here in the comment section.

Meanwhile, I have a piece of pumpkin pie waiting for me and one angel watching over me.

Dear Diary

Check out my new blog titled Dear Diary. It is not your conventional modern day diary about work, and dating or anything like that. Dear Diary is actually tagged as the url dearmidnightdiary, true to my pen name. The basis for this blog is to explore the evolution of The Diary, beginning back in Victorian times to the modern day present.

For those who are unfamiliar with "diary" history, which today evolved into "blogging" and "journals", this will be an enlightening read and a shake away from the usual internet topic.

Expect to be surprised when heart wrenching entries move you to tears and connect you with the writers telling their stories to "Dear Diary".

Explore the unfolding history of literary arts in the customs of cultures stemming from the Victorian era, where the Diary was born. Travel through time to discover how cultures evolved both in their writing style, customs, traditions, fashion and in the way people related to Dear Diary.

The first experiences that people in the Victorian era were entries to a reader, a listener ..if you will in the personna of "Dear Diary". These early diaries were written in the first person to the speaker but with a sense of being disconnected.

As time advanced from the Victorian era through colonial times into the space age, Diary keepers learned to speak as individuals without a necessary audience. Abstract tribal minds developed into individual minds who viewed the world on a very personal and emotional level.

This blog should prove to become a favorite read with a creative personal touch. Join us on the journey with Dear Diary.
